This CD tries to capture the very essence of Lagos, A bustling City of about 15 – 18 million inhabitants, traffic jams, taxis, parties, people (rich and poor) arts and crafts, different varieties of exotic food, housing (slums to palaces) monsoon rains, dry hamattan winds, bargaining at street markets, the police, military, children’s games etc.
Lagos is a musically and culturally rich city. In his youth Toby Foyeh had a fascinating experience of growing up in Lagos, school days at Kings College, Lagos, International School, Ibadan, Fela’s shrine Sunny Ade’s Ariya club, with Highlife, Juju, Apala, Afro Rock bands blasting away.
“Lagos Ilu Eko” captures the fire in the band’s music and you experience the explosive live stage performances of the band.
AFRIJAM MUSIC
Afrijam Music evolved out of incorporating the traditional and folk music of Nigeria’s Yorubaland with elements of Jazz, Rock, Afrobeat, and Highlife to create an African music with a global dimension.
This unique new music with Nigerian roots is created while paying homage to a tradition inspired by African ancestors. Afrijam is the future music of Africa. The spirits, sounds, voices and rhythms of Africa are now captured on disc for you.
TOBY FOYEH
The Artist has been a major ambassador of African music for many years. An accomplished ace African Guitarist who is also versatile in Rock and Jazz. He has been a bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer of some successful African bands as well as pioneer in the preservation of African musical heritage.
A great love of music from an early age meant leaving riches, an illustrious political family behind to pursue a goal of taking creative African music round the globe.
The band has toured worldwide for some years now, performing at major world renowned Music Festivals, Performing Arts Centers, Universities in the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, Africa and the Caribbean.
